Domestic Dispute Turns Into Chainsaw Attack: Police

(CBS) -- Police in Arlington Heights are holding a man they say attacked another man with a chainsaw Monday afternoon.

At the center of it all: a woman, police say.

First, one man confronted another and hit his vehicle around 1 p.m. in the parking lot of an office complex in the 500 block of West Golf Road.

Then, when the victim tried to run, police say the other man went after him -- with a chainsaw.

"It was like the 'Chainsaw Massacre' out there," says an employee at the office park. The witness says the attack ended when a police officer arrived on the scene and ordered the suspect to the ground.

Arlington Heights Deputy Police Chief Andrew Whowell says he's never encountered anything quite like it.

"No, I haven't. It's definitely unique," he tells WBBM's Steve Miller.

Deputy Chief Whowell says the man who was attacked with the chainsaw was seriously hurt, but did not have fatal injuries.

He characterized the incident as a "domestic situation that turned violent."

Police emphasized there is no danger to the general public.
