Census Bureau: Chicago Area Population Grew Very Slightly In 2013
CHICAGO (CBS) -- New statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau suggest the Chicago metro area grew very slowly over the last year.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports the Chicago metro area had a growth of only 0.2 percent in 2013, with the fastest growing counties being Kendall and DuPage; and Porter County in Indiana.
"The Chicago metro area has added 23,000 people over the last year, and the Chicago metro area ranked 27th in terms of numerical growth among all of the metro areas in the United States," said Jennifer Ortman, chief of the Population Division at the Census Bureau.
That's much slower growth than the metro areas in New York and Los Angeles, which both added more than 300,000 people last year.
The Chicago metro area remained the third largest in the U.S., with a population of 9.5 million last year. Cook County also remained 2nd largest in the nation, with 5.24 million residents.
