Cedar Lake Man Charged With DUI After Hitting 5-Year-Old Son
CRETE TOWNSHIP, Ind. (STMW) -- A 5-year-old boy remained hospitalized Friday night and his father was facing DUI and battery charges after the father hit the boy with a car following an argument with his father-in-law over whether he was too drunk to drive, police said.
The Post-Tribune is reporting that John P. Green, 40, of Cedar Lake, Ind., got into a physical fight with his father-in-law about 7:30 a.m. Friday in front of a residence in the 23600 block of Ashland Avenue, Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said.
"The father-in-law tried to keep him from driving and was beat up pretty bad," Kaupas said. "Green then got in his car and drove through his father-in-law's yard — striking his son."
The boy reportedly suffered serious head injuries. His condition Friday night was not immediately available.
Green was taken into custody at the scene and questioned by investigators, Kaupas said. After a review by the Will County State's Attorney's office, Green was charged with aggravated battery to a child, aggravated domestic battery, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and two counts of domestic battery. He was booked into the county jail.
