CeaseFire Marching To Stop Violence
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Anti-violence protesters plan to hit the streets of Chicago and six other communities tonight to get ahead of spring shootings.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, armed with statistics showing violence on the rise in February and March, CeaseFire Illinois director Tio Hardiman is hoping marches in 13 Chicago neighborhoods and six other cities will send a message.

"Violence is unacceptable behavior, and we're all coming together to ask people to just stop the violence. Think before you act. It's not worth it."
Hardiman says CeaseFire violence interrupters have already mediated over 50 conflicts this year.
He credits his group and Chicago Police for a drop in violence last year in 2009 – something he says hopes will continue under a new police superintendent and mayor.
