Carter Talks About Difficulties Facing Obama

CHICAGO (WBBM) - Former President Jimmy Carter's new book "White House Diary" details the problems that led him to be a one-term President. But, as Newsradio 780's Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, Mr. Carter believes President Barack Obama is facing some even greater challenges.

When he sees President Barack Obama facing an economic crisis, worrisome midterm elections, and disheartened supporters, former President Jimmy Carter admits he sometimes finds himself thinking "been there, done that."

Except, the former President feels the current Chief Executive is facing tougher challenges than he did, when he could count on at least some Republican votes.

Former President Jimmy Carter says in his only mid-term election cycle, he enjoyed high popularity and the Democrats gained congressional seats.

But Mr. Carter says President Barack Obama is facing a more polarized country than he did.

In his new book "White House Diary", Mr. Carter describes his cooperation with Republican lawmakers. But says negative ad campaigns funded by outside groups have heightened partisan tensions and rhetoric and left President Obama with more challenges.
