Carpentersville OK's Firearms School
CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (STMW) - Bullets may be flying--safely--in Carpentersville after the village board approved a special-use permit to allow a firearms training school at 855 Commerce Parkway.
Carl Swanson of Chicago Armory LLC plans to open the school, which is to include a rifle range, a pistol range and physical training facilities. Anyone—from individuals to security firms and municipal, county and state governments—will be able to train at the facility. The site is in the Spring Hill Center industrial park off Route 31 on the north edge of the village.
Swanson said an advantage this facility would have over other shooting ranges in Illinois is the ability to shoot weapons larger than handguns. This will allow police departments to train their SWAT teams, something that cannot be done at most shooting ranges.
Swanson also plans to sell firearms at the facility.
In other business this week, the village board approved a resolution finding Binnie Randall LLC in default of its obligations regarding the installation and acceptance of improvements in the Binnie Randall Commons subdivision at the northeast corner of Binnie and Randall roads, platted in 2006.
The developer had been working with the village after his obligations for completing the subdivision improvements were guaranteed by three letters of credit totaling $313,100.
Since then, the village and Smith Engineering Consultants completed a review of the property and said they found numerous deficiencies. Those included overgrown vacant lots and issues with hydrants, auxiliary valves and other maintenance items around the property.
With this resolution, the village will begin preparing bid documents to correct the deficiencies and to complete the project in 2011.
