Carousel From Kiddieland Goes Up For Auction
(CBS) -- If you have cherished memories from the now-shuttered Kiddieland in Melrose Park, now's your chance to own a piece of it, if your pockets are deep enough. The story from WBBM's Regine Schlesinger.
The music of the carousel has been a sirens' song for children for over 150 years. Now, Donley Auctions is selling four carousels next month.
Carousel From Kiddieland Up For Auction
"The most outstanding one being the fabulous carousel out of the Kiddieland amusement park which closed a few years ago," said Randy Donley.
Donley says the Kiddieland carousel was built in 1925 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. He says it's worth at least a $1 million and could bring in double that.
"Every carousel only had one really beautifully hand-carved -what they called - the signature horse. The Kiddieland carousel is the only one in history that had sixteen signature horses on it. It's just a phenomenal piece of craftsmanship and carving."
The auction takes place on November 16 online at www.donleyauctions.com and at Donley's Wild West Town in Union in McHenry County. There will be a preview party the night before.
