Carimi Won't Play Against Childhood Team
(CBS) Sidelined by a dislocated right knee, Bears first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi will not play against the Green Bay Packers -- the team he grew up rooting for.
"I was really looking forward to it," Carimi said Thursday. "It's kind of unfortunate."
Carimi suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's 30-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
There is no timetable for Carimi's return, though typical recovery for this injury is four to six weeks. Still, the Lake Forest native expects to pick up right where he left off when he returns to the Bears offensive line.
"You should be able to jump back into it," he said. "The biggest thing was switching from right to left (tackle) but now I'm comfortable, so hopefully I'll be able to jump right back in there."
Carimi suffered the same injury two years at go at Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl, but said this time, he felt much more stability in his knee.
"It feels 100 percent stable," he said. "When I got up, I could feel that my knee was 100-percent stable. It wasn't anything where I couldn't move it. I have had it where my knee didn't feel stable. I can walk around now. I'm walking around here fine, but there's (still) that pain in my knee cap."
