Cara Health: Using Voice Technology To Determine Patient Needs
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Cara Health started in Dublin, but has now moved to Chicago and is among the innovators at the 1871 Incubator in the Merchandise Mart.
"The size of the market and the investment, and it's really the atmosphere," said Cara Health chief medical officer Dr. Carmel Martin – physician turned entrepreneur turned Chicagoan. "The atmosphere here is really electric, and there's so many opportunities. We're here meeting with venture capitalists around the corner; universities who help us evaluate our product. It's brilliant."

As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports in this week's Made in Chicago, Dr. Martin's Cara Health is in the business of computational linguistics analysis.
"There's a whole industry in health of people making phone calls to patients – whether it's from the hospital or it's from primary care – to identify when they need intervention," Martin said.
Essentially, Cara Health determines by phone responses if the homebound need a visit, or an ambulance.
Cara Health was founded by a group of technology executives and leaders in health care innovation at Trinity College Dublin.
The 1871 Incubator is a tech center that opened earlier this year at the Merchandise Mart, where an array of technology entrepreneurs share a collaborative space.
