Car Slams Into Semi Trailer On Mannheim Road
UPDATED 11/23/11 8:58 a.m.
DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- Rescue crews in Des Plaines had to extricate a driver early Wednesday, after a car crashed into a semi-trailer truck and ended up pinned underneath.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, sometime before 6:15 a.m., a semi-trailer truck was pulling out of a restaurant supply depot along Mannheim Road just north of Touhy Avenue, and was turning north on Mannheim.
The driver of the car was headed south on Mannheim Road, and slammed into the trailer as the truck made its left turn.
The driver was extricated from the car. He was "conscious and alert" when he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Des Plaines Fire Battalion Chief Art Zern told the Sun-Times Media Wire.
It took 29 minutes for crews to extricate the man, Zern told the wire.
Mannheim Road was blocked from Touhy Avenue to Howard Street after the accident. Habermehl advises using Lee Street or River Road as alternates.
