Car Slams Into Building On Northwest Side

CHICAGO (STMW) - Two motorists were critically injured early Wednesday, when three vehicles collided and one of them plowed into a building on the Northwest Side.

The wreck occurred about 2 a.m. at the intersection of Belmont and Austin avenues, according to police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash -- including one that was parked, according to a Jefferson Park District police sergeant.

"One car apparently went into a building. It was a store, but it's now vacant,'' the sergeant said.

Two people were hospitalized in critical condition with one at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and another at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.

Their ages or genders were not immediately available.

The building sustained damage but it was not rendered structurally unsound, according to the sergeant.

It was not known immediately what caused the crash but as of 4:30 a.m., no citations had been written. The two hospitalized are the drivers, the sergeant said.
