Van Slams Into Thrift Store In Albany Park
UPDATED 03/17/11 10:53 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A van slammed into a Salvation Army thrift store in the Albany Park neighborhood early Thursday.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the minivan slammed into the Salvation Army Family Store at the southwest corner of Montrose and Spaulding avenues, and took off.
The driver also hit two parked cars, police said.
Police were on the scene to secure the store, at 3301 W. Montrose Ave., as of 6 a.m., since a plate-glass front window had been blown out.
Glass and steel were strewn around, and some of the merchandise in the store was damaged.
The accident happened well before business hours, and no one was in the store at the time.
By late morning, the store was boarded up. There were no surveillance cameras to capture the incident, staff said.
Police are trying to locate the vehicle Thursday morning based on descriptions from witnesses, and say the minivan that hit the store is dark green with extensive front-end damage.
