I-65 Reopens After Multiple Crashes
UPDATED 01/11/11 12:33 p.m.
MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (CBS) -- Interstate 65 reopened in both directions Tuesday afternoon, nearly two hours after multiple crashes forced Indiana State Police to shut the highway down in Boone County.
Shortly before 10 a.m., the southbound lanes of I-65 were shut down at 109th because of a crash between a car and a semi, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Ann Wojas. The backup southbound reached to U.S. 30, more than two miles.
All lanes were reopened by about 10:40 a.m., but at about the same time, Indiana State Police advised drivers to stay away from I-65 in both directions near Lebanon -- about 30 miles northwest of Indianapolis, due to multiple crashes. Police said several vehicles had slid off the roadway and a semi trailer truck had jack-knifed in Boone County.
I-65 was shut down in both directions between mile markers 140 and 143 in Boone County for nearly two hours as a result, but Wojas said those lanes were re-opened by about 12:30 p.m.
