Car plunges from parking garage at Harlem Irving Plaza in Chicago suburbs
NORRIDGE, Ill. (CBS) -- A car plunged down from the second floor of a mall parking garage in northwest suburban Norridge on Monday, and landed upside-down.
The car fell in the early afternoon from the garage at Harlem Irving Plaza. First responders said a woman somehow drove over the edge and landed on Octavia Avenue near Belle Plaine Avenue.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the woman out of her car.
"The car held up pretty good for us to be able to get her out, but we were definitely concerned with her wellbeing," said Lt. Ronald Schneider of the Norwood Park Fire Protection District, "but she was in great spirits, and we were able to get her out."
Firefighters said the woman's seatbelt was holding her in place, which also helped keep her safe.
