Woman Dead After Car Plunges Into Pond

PALATINE, Ill. (CBS) -- A woman died Thursday afternoon after the car she was in plunged into a pond on the campus of Harper College in northwest suburban Palatine.
The car went into a pond off of Euclid Avenue shortly before noon on the campus of Harper College, located at 1200 W. Algonquin Rd. in Palatine, officials said.
Divers pulled a woman out of the water shortly after arriving at the scene and took her to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where she was pronounced dead. She was later identified as Victoria Auer, 64, of 2493 Yarrow Lane in Rolling Meadows, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
It was unclear if the woman worked at the school, college spokesman Phil Burdick said.
Divers continued to search the pond after pulling the woman out, in case there were other victims. But no one else was found and the car was later removed from the pond.
Palatine police, Harper College police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office were investigating.
