Car Lands In Water-Filled Ditch In Crystal Lake Crash
CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (STMW) - A car came to rest in three feet of water in a ditch along a northwest suburban Crystal Lake road Wednesday afternoon when the driver swerved to avoid another car.
Emergency personnel responded at 4:52 p.m. to a crash on Illinois Route 176 near Mount Thabor Road in Crystal Lake and found a two-vehicle crash where one vehicle came to rest in three feet of water in a ditch off the road, according to a Crystal Lake police release.
A 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer traveling east on Illinois Route 176 came to a stop because the driver, 20-year-old Jessica Hill, of Marengo, intended to turn left onto Mount Thabor Road, the release said. A 2006 Hyundai traveling behind the Mitsubishi failed to failed to sufficiently reduce speed and swerved off the road in an attempt to avoid striking the Mitsubishi.
The Hyundai, driven by 68-year-old Roberta Luebbers, of Marengo, sideswiped the passenger's side of the Mitsubishi then left the road and came to rest in the water-filled ditch, the release said.
Paramedics evaluated everyone involved in the crash and determined nobody was injured, the release said.
Luebbers was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and was released pending an Aug. 18 court date in McHenry County.
Traffic was diverted from the area for about 40 minutes while crews investigated the crash and removed the Hyundai from the water.
