Car Fire Snags Southbound Tri-State As Morning Rush Begins
DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- A car fire snagged the Tri-State Tollway near O'Hare International Airport just as the morning rush began Friday.
The car burst into flames on the southbound Tri-State (I-294) near the junction with Interstate 90 sometime before 6:30 a.m. Once the fire was out, the tires had been blown, the passenger compartment was charred, and the car was a wreck.
The Des Plaines Fire Department put down foam to fight the blaze.
Following the fire, two right lanes were blocked on the Tri-State.
But the traffic problems were actually worse on the northbound Tri-State, where a gapers block backed up traffic for two miles all the way to the Bensenville bridge, CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports.
There were no reports of injuries.
