Car Crash Leads To Burglary Ring Arrests
OAK PARK, Ill. (STMW) - Three Chicago teens were arrested Dec. 30 in west suburban Oak Park in connection with a string of December home burglaries.
Police first discovered the teens when they were involved in a traffic crash at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 30 on the 200 block of North Oak Park Avenue near Erie Street.
Two of the car's occupants fled after the crash, but were stopped a short time later.
Several electronics were found inside the car and police later determined the items had been stolen.
A detective who responded to the scene recognized that the car matched the description of a car stolen through a Dec. 5 burglary on the first block of South Boulevard in which the keys were taken.
"We received cooperation from some of the arrestees, and were able to recover a number of items," said Detective Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds.
Darrell Hall, who turns 18 on Jan. 16, was charged with multiple counts of residential burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and several traffic offenses following the crash.
The two Chicago minors in the car with Hall were also charged with numerous burglaries. One boy was turned over to a parent, while the other was turned over to the county juvenile detention center.
Police say the burglaries' locations included the 1100 block of South Elmwood Avenue on Dec. 14, the 1100 block of Pleasant Street on Dec. 20, the 900 block of Wisconsin Avenue on Dec. 22 and the 1100 block of South Clarence Avenue on Dec. 29.
Hall, who was held in lieu of bond, was also charged with a burglary Dec. 15 on the 1100 block of East Avenue.
