Capone Gun Sells For Nearly $110,000
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A handgun once owned by gangster Al Capone has sold for almost $110,000 at an auction in London.
The Colt .38, sold by a private collector, was won by an anonymous bidder for $109,080.
The weapon, which was made three months after the St. Valentines Day Massacre in 1929, was only used by Capone while he was alive.
It was passed to Capone's brother, Ralph, after the mobster's death.

To confirm its authenticity, the revolver was sold with a letter and a 1990 sworn affidavit from Capone's sister-in-law, Madeleine Capone Morichetti.
She lists the weapon's serial number and describes it in a 1976 letter as "a gun which previously belonged to and was used only by Al Capone while he was alive," according to the auction house Web site.
