Can't Wait For Christmas? Apparently, Neither Can Macy's
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Summer's not officially over, but on the 6th floor of Macy's on State Street, it's already Christmastime.
While it's shirt sleeves and shorts outside, with temperatures in the 90s earlier this week, you wouldn't know it stepping onto the 6th floor at Macy's on State Street. At the Holiday Lane seasonal store, the aisles are awash in red, green, and silver. The tinsel is up, and Santa Claus and his Elves are on display.
Irene Manijefski said she thought Macy's was pushing it a little by opening the Christmas-themed shop more than three months before Christmas, but added, "I wish I was eight; the lights, the excitement."
Christmas Starting Early At Macy's
Fellow shopper Magadalia Coleman said, "I'm kind of shocked, because we haven't even gotten to October – which is Halloween – nor Thanksgiving, and here we have Christmas decorations."
Coleman said she did kind of enjoy a glittery green artificial poinsettia underneath a giant fabric Santa alongside stacks of silver ornaments.
Holiday Lane is stocked with giant Santas, miniature Santa ornaments, and Christmas trees in green and snow white.
"Beautiful angels, beautiful Santas, nicely decorated," Manijefski said.
She noted a holiday style, with Christmas tree ornaments so dense, "you don't see the tree at all. It's all the ornamentation, and everything is on the outside … at the very edge of the branches, which I've never seen before."
There are nostalgic snow-covered British buildings, including a gin distillery and a brewery.
Closer to home, there's a snow-covered pizza joint; as well as a Harley Davidson dealership, complete with Santa inside, coveting a Hog.
Barbara Giles said the timing was good for her: she stocked up early with a bag full of Chicago Christmas ornaments for the impending visit of her grandchildren.
