Candidates In Final Stretch Of Push For Votes
CHICAGO (CBS) - It's down to the wire for many of the candidates who are in the final stretch of the weekend push to get to votes.
CBS 2's Jim Williams reports candidates are campaigning and talking to potential voters on the North Side Sunday.
At Joe's on Weed Street, a big Republican 'get out the vote' rally is scheduled for Sunday evening. Senate candidate Mark Kirk and gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady will attend.
Earlier, Brady was in the seasonal spirit, campaigning at the pumpkin parade in Sycamore on this last Sunday before Election Day. He said Democrats, including his opponent Gov. Pat Quinn, are desperate because they brought in President Obama this weekend for a big campaign rally Saturday night in Hyde Park.
But Brady and Kirk have a big name of their own for their rally at Joe's tonight: Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts, who made big news in January when he won Ted Kennedy's Senate seat.
Gov. Quinn is also keeping up a busy schedule Sunday. He campaigned at a South Side church and made a humorous remark in the middle of his serious push for votes.
"Don't compare me to the almighty, compare me to the alternative," said Quinn. "The people of the Democratic Party, and I'm one of them, we understand we've got to fight hard to protect the minimum wage. We've got to fight hard to protect our decent health care for citizens, and we've got to fight hard for jobs."
Both Quinn and Brady will campaign Sunday night. They are in a very tight race for governor of Illinois.
