Canadian Man Killed In Englewood Shooting
UPDATED: 10/10/2012 10:40 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Canadian truck driver was fatally shot Tuesday night during a robbery in the South Side Englewood neighborhood, police said.
Gary Clark, 39, of Ontario, who worked for Aberstar Fast Freight, came to Chicago on a delivery. A co-worker at the company said everyone is shocked by the news, CBS 2's Susanna Song reports.
On Wednesday morning, Clark's semi-truck was still parked in the grassy lot next to an apartment building in the 5800 block of South Aberdeen.
His employer believes Clark was visiting relatives before heading back to Canada. His brother lives down the street.
Clark was found dead inside the truck.
According to police, he was approached by several robbers last night around 8 p.m.
There are no bullet holes on the truck, but he suffered a gunshot wound to the right hip.
It's unclear if any money was stolen.
One neighbor walking his four nieces to school Wednesday morning said he saw the commotion after the shooting.
"I have never seen that many police cars," said Earnest Johnson. "It can never be a peaceful day, with killing and everything."
Nobody is in custody.
Clark had planned on leaving Chicago this morning.
His co-workers say he was married with children.
