Calumet Park Man Dies In Dan Ryan Rollover Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A south suburban man died in a two-vehicle rollover crash early Wednesday on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) on the South Side.
Rescue crews responded to the crash about 12:55 a.m. on southbound I-94 near 87th Street, according to the Illinois State Police.
An SUV traveling south in the center lane struck the car in front of it causing the car to spin and strike the left concrete barrier wall, police said. The six occupants inside of the car, whose ages were not immediately known, were not injured.
The SUV, which carried only 41-year-old Deon Brooks, veered to the right off the roadway and up the embankment, where it rolled over, authorities said.
Brooks, of the 12000 block of Lincoln Street in south suburban Calumet Park, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Three lanes of the Dan Ryan were closed for nearly four hours, but all lanes were reopened by 4:45 a.m., police said.
No citations have been issued as the Illinois State Police investigate.
