Calumet City Man Dies In Dan Ryan Crash
(STMW) -- Three express lanes of the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway have been reopened Monday afternoon following a chain-reaction crash that left a south suburban man dead.
The four-vehicle crash happened about 1 p.m. in the outbound lanes of I-94 near 43rd Street, Illinois State Police said in a statement.
A Pontiac Grand Am broke down, and was partially on the left shoulder and partially in the left lane of traffic, police said.
A Toyota Highlander SUV behind it could not stop in time, and a Chevrolet Silverado then hit the Highlander, pushing it into the Pontiac, police said.
The chain-reaction crash also caused the Pontiac to hit a gray Toyota Camry, police said.
Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, authorities said. The driver of the Pontiac, a 58-year-old Calumet City man, was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to ISP.
The three left lanes were closed for roughly three hours as crews investigated and cleaned up the wreck, but all lanes have since reopened, police said.
