'Call Me Maybe:' The CBS 2 Edition
CHICAGO (CBS) -- They're calling "Call Me Maybe" the song of summer 2012, and Carly Rae Jepsen, the 26-year-old Canadian recording artist behind the song, has become an international superstar.
The song has become such a sensation that you've probably even heard its backstory – "Call Me Maybe" was released in September of last year, and became an international sensation when Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez tweeted about the song. And now, "Call Me Maybe" has hit No. 1 in the United States, the United Kingdom and 10 other countries, and has peaked in the top five in five more.
The song has also been covered by everyone from Katy Perry and Ashley Tisdale to Bieber and Gomez themselves, and it was also famously parodied by Cookie Monster.
"Call Me Maybe" is clearly to 2012 what Chubby Checker's "The Twist" was to 1960, the Knack's "My Sharona" was to 1979, and "The Maracrena" was to 1996.
And this morning, CBS 2 got in on the action.
Jepsen, who was in town for the Kellogg's Pop-Tart's Crazy Good Summer Concert Series, herself took a ride with CBS 2's Vince Gerasole to talk about her experience of becoming a superstar – she calls it "surreal" – and they did their own rendition of "Call Me Maybe" when they were at it.
But it didn't stop there. Mobile 2 turned into a virtual karaoke machine, as Vince belted it out with Susan Carlson, Kris Guiterrez and Derrick Young. And back at CBS 2, Harry Porterfield, Roseanne Tellez and Mary Kay Kleist got in on the action too.
