Cable Programming Planned Just For Veterans

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Chicago aldermen this week will debate a proposal to provide cable TV access programming exclusively for, by and about veterans and their families.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Pat Cassidy reports, the programming plan is an idea pushed by Mike Grady, who produces a veterans' forum that sometimes airs on Chicago Access Network television.

Grady tells the Southtown-Star that although there are many financial and emotional resources for military veterans and their families, many veterans don't know they exist.

The City Council Licensing Committee on Wednesday will debate a city ordinance that would require one of the five Chicago public access channels to provide programming exclusively for, by and about veterans and their families.

Ald. Richard Mell (33rd) is backing the ordinance.

Grady said he would call the programming service V-SPANN, for Veterans Special Programs American National Network.
