2 Hurt When Car Slams Into Dunkin' Donuts Downtown
UPDATED 05/03/11 7:28 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two drivers were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning when a sport-utility vehicle and a taxi crashed downtown, sending the SUV into a Dunkin' Donuts.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports a Yellow taxi-van and a silver sport-utility vehicle crashed in front of the Dunkin' Donuts at 211 W. Adams St. sometime before 6 a.m. The cab sustained front and back-end damage, and the other car ended up inside the Dunkin' Donuts.
The drivers -- a man and a woman -- were taken to area hospitals from the scene. The woman appeared to be conscious as paramedics placed her on a stretcher, but her face was bloody.
Both drivers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
At least one employee was in the store -- which was open at the time of the crash -- but no one else was reported injured, Perez said.
Emergency responders have asked for the city Building Department to come to the scene, as well as the city Health Department, since the store was full of food products.
Police also closed Wells Street near the scene.
