Byrd: Quade Manages All 25 Players
CHICAGO (WSCR) As a major league manager, Mike Quade has to be able to read his players and understand how to handle each situation in order to prevent it from becoming a bigger issue. Some managers take an aggressive route, and some like to work behind closed doors.
"He does it all," outfielder Marlon Byrd said of his manager on the Mully and Hanley Show. "What he does, is he actually manages this team. And when you're managing a team, you have 25 guys and 25 different personalities: some guys, you can go up and scold; some guys, you just need them to put your arm around them; some guys, they need to sit down and you need to talk to them for about 15 minutes to explain everything."

Earlier this week, starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano broke a bat over his knee after striking out, another instance where Quade needed to understand how to handle the player and the situation.
"With Zambrano, he needs to joke about it, and in joking about it he got his point across," Byrd said. "That's the main thing about being a manager, and that's what 'Q' does, he gets his point across to all of his players. Whichever way he has to do it, he does it."
