Byrd: 'I'm Putting My Money On The Cubs Right Now'
CHICAGO (WSCR) The Chicago Cubs have been at, or right around the .500-mark for most of the season so far. And luckily for them so has the rest of the National League Central division.
"The big thing with us is we really haven't played up to our capability yet," Cubs' outfielder Marlon Byrd said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "Offense or defense or pitching, it hasn't been there consistently, like we'd want it. We still don't have 'Wellsy' back, we still don't have [Andrew] Cashner back, and once they get back that solidifies our rotation."
Both Randy Wells and Cashner were placed on the disabled list after their first starts of the season, and both players look effective in those starts.

But as Byrd emphasized, consistent play will be the biggest key to the Cubs making a potential run up the standings.
"But once we start doing that and once we get hot, you know, I think we're going to be fine. But the scary thing is, the first team that gets hot in the NL Central, I think, is going to win this thing. So we need to get out of the gate right now, starting now against Cincinnati and try to have this thing carry over."
The Cubs' best chance to grab hold of the division might come over the upcoming homestand. The Cubs currently sit three games back, but have a series with both the St. Louis Cardinals (first place) and Reds (second place) over the next week.
"I'm putting my money on the Cubs right now," Byrd said.
