Byrd Could Be Back In Lineup On Saturday Or Sunday

(WSCR) Cubs center fielder Marlon Byrd has been playing for the organization's Triple-A affiliate this week, trying to get ready to return to the lineup. Byrd was placed on the disabled list in late-March, after being hit in the face with a pitch while the team was in Boston.

"I'm going on my fourth game (in Iowa) today, and I'm going to see how I feel after the game," Byrd said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "If everything goes well, I could be back tomorrow. Or if I need another day, I'll be back on Sunday."

In his three games in Iowa, Byrd has gone 3-for-11 with a home run and a double. The most encouraging sign for him is that he hasn't been hesitant to step in to the batter's box. He's already been hit twice in his first three rehab games, but says nothing will stop him from joining the team on their upcoming road trip.

"I'll be on the plane, with the team, going to D.C.," Byrd said.
