Byrd: Castro Is A 'Different Breed'
CHICAGO (WSCR) After hitting for a .348 batting average in the first month of the season, Starlin Castro had a rough start to the month of May. But there's no need to worry, says Cubs outfielder Marlon Byrd, that's part of baseball.
"At some point during the season you're going to slump," Byrd said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "And whenever you're Starlin Castro...everything is going great, you're hitting .350, you're the shortstop for the Chicago Cubs, you're on Sports Illustrated, when you do hit an 0-for-25 or you hit a little mini-slump, or a two-for-whatever, it's going to get magnified, and that's what it is right now.

"Starlin got put in a very difficult spot. Because I wasn't doing my job, he had to move to the three-hole and try to run produce for this team. And he hit a mini-slump, and just hit it at the wrong time becuase he was hitting in the three-hole. Yeah it got magnified. But as you saw the other day, he's not just that regular young guy, he's a different breed, becuase he came out and had that 4-for-4 game [on Wednesday], 1-for-4 [on Thursday], but had some great at-bats. He's working every single day. He's working hard to become a better player, and that's what I love about him."
