Byrd And Cubs Have Eyes On Playoffs
Chicago Cubs' owner Tom Ricketts made it clear that for his team, it's playoffs or bust. Some people might see that as wishful thinking for a team that was 75-87 last season and finished fifth in the division.
But outfielder Marlon Byrd isn't one of those people. There's one big reason why he thinks the team will be so improved from a season ago.
"New acquisitions," Byrd said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "Matt Garza coming on the team, you have Carlos Pena, and Kerry Wood coming back into the fold. Everything we did this offseason filled every need that we had. All the veterans coming back, and our young guys are all ready to go this year."

Starlin Castro and Darwin Barney will make up one of the youngest opening day middle infields. They, along with Tyler Colvin and Andrew Cashner, present the Cubs with a great young core to go along with some experienced veterans.
"I saw preparation this spring training that I haven't seen in a while, with any team that I've been with," Byrd said.
While Byrd and Ricketts may share the same optimism, the team will have to perform on the field if they want to change the minds of all of those who don't see much difference from a season ago.
