Buyer Saves Holy Cross Hospital
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Holy Cross Hospital on the city's Southwest Side was on life support, but now it has received a much-needed shot in the arm.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Pat Cassidy reports, finances were in such poor shape that the hospital, at 2701 W. 68th St., was said to be close to shutting down.
But Vanguard Health Systems of Tennessee came to the rescue and bought the 331-bed facility near Marquette Park. The terms of the deal were not announced.
Holy Cross Hospital will retain its Roman Catholic identity after the deal closes, and its ethical directives, which, for example, do not allow for certain sterilization procedures.
With Holy Cross, Vanguard will own six hospitals in the Chicago area.
