Busy Year For Bank Robbers So Far
CHICAGO (CBS) -- With four months still left, it's already been a busy year for Chicago-area bank robbers.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, two more holdups this week have raised the number of bank robberies this year so far to 116 – one more than for all of last year.
The latest occurred when a man implying he had a gun held up the Metropolitan Bank in the Southwest Side's Brighton Park neighborhood, and another robber hit the Charter One branch in Bridgeview.
The suspect in the Brighton Park holdup is described as a man in his 20s with blond hair. The suspect in the Bridgeview holdup was about 30.
Authorities have not revealed the amount of money stolen in the two robberies.
The FBI says the record for Chicago area bank robberies was 284 back in 2006.
