Busy Week Ahead For Chicago Stadium Vendors
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Vendors who sell beer, hot dogs, game programs, and more in the stands at Chicago sporting events are in for a rough – but lucrative – six days at work.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, more than a perfect storm, it's a nightmare, according to Vince Pesha, vice president of SEIU Local 1, which represents vendors at the United Center, U.S. Cellular Field and Wrigley Field.
"It's a little bit of a nightmare for management, but it puts all our people to work," he said.
Busy Week For Vendors
For example, on Friday, some vendors will be running straight from Wrigley, where the Cubs play a day game, to U.S. Cellular for the Sox night game.
There's really no let-up for the vendors for a week. On Saturday, the Cubs and Sox play at 3 p.m., then the Blackhawks host a playoff game at 7 p.m.
Not to worry, there will be plenty of vendors to cover all three games.
"We've got people that come home from school, so this is our full season. This is when all our membership is back, and everybody's working," he said.
By the end of next week, the vendors will be soaking their feet and counting their money, with the Sox wrapping up their homestand on Wednesday, and the Cubs finishing up theirs on Thursday.
The Blackhawks could still have a couple home games left if they get to the Stanley Cup Final, but neither baseball team will be back until June 21 at the earliest.
