Business Group: Companies Hiring This Year

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- An Illinois business group survey suggests there will be more jobs to be had in Illinois this year than last, with more than half the companies surveyed planning to hire.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, Management Association of Illinois president and chief executive officer Mary Lynn Fayoumi says many businesses are not taking a wait-and-see attitude on the year, and are planning to hire in the year's first three to six months.

There is more upbeat news as well. Fayoumi says the talk of layoffs and furloughs that had been so prevalent as recently as 2009 is all but gone, and, "I was really glad on the benefits side to see that so many organizations had restored 401(k) matches; had restored pay increases, bonus plans."

Fayoumi says some employers are upping their benefits because they are afraid of losing workers they might have burned out in the past couple of years.
