Bus Stop Near Bar Leads To Complaint In Lake Villa

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- A Lake Villa Township mother--upset that her kids' bus stop was in front of a bar--has accused the school district of child endangerment.

Blind spots along narrow and winding Munn Road, makes it a poor place for a bus stop. So, according to resident Janet Galati, the Lake Villa District 41 and the bus company moved it.

The new location forced her kids to walk to a nearby bar and boarding house, where a sex offender lives.

Galati complained, and the district agreed to pick up her kids in front of their home.

Until last week, when she was told budget cuts meant the stop was going back to the bar.

Galati says she's offered to pay a fee or raise money but was turned down.

So she filed a complaint with the Lake County State's Attorney's office, accusing the district of child endangerment.

Shortly thereafter, she was told the bus stop will never be used again.

Galati is pleased, but says there are plenty of other bus stops located near bars in the area.

She wants other parents to raise their voices about kids being picked up in front of bars.

District 41 Supt. John Van Pelt was not available for comment.
