Bus-Car Collision Closes Inbound Dan Ryan
CHICAGO (CBS) – Twenty people were sent to local hospitals Sunday evening when a car collided with a tour bus on the inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway and halted northbound traffic temporarily.
A passenger aboard the Royal Excursion bus told CBS 2 that an SUV in an express lane began fish-tailing and hit another car, which struck the motorcoach. The passenger, Ray Rollins, 28, of Forest Park, said one passenger was thrown into the middle aisle of the bus and others complained of back pain after the collision, which occurred at about 6 p.m. near 47th Street.
The 20 patients were in fair to good condition when they were taken to local hospitals, the Chicago Fire Department reported. Another 31 refused treatment.
The tour bus had taken passengers to a Hammond, Ind. casino and was on its way back to Chicago's Chinatown when the accident occurred, Rollins said.
State Police remained on the scene Sunday evening.
