Burglars Strike Homes In Ukrainian Village

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police are warning residents of the Ukrainian Village neighborhood about a series of burglaries this month.

As WBBM Newsradio's David Roe reports, police say the burglars hit homes that are empty – when their residents are at work or otherwise occupied – and they steal at will.

The burglaries happened about noon June 6 in the 1100 block of North Hermitage Avenue, about 4:30 p.m. June 8 in the 1100 block of North Wolcott Avenue, about 1:30 a.m. June 10 in the 1700 block of West Augusta Boulevard and about 6:45 p.m. June 10 in the 900 block of North Wolcott Avenue, the alert said.

Police suggest residents secure doors and windows, immediately repair broken windows, doors or locks, activate alarm systems and keep the perimeter well-lit.

Police also suggest reporting suspicious persons, vehicles or activity and remind victims not to touch anything and to call police immediately.
