Police in the northwest suburb say the residents of an apartment in the 2100 block of South Goebbert Road arrived home around 1 p.m. Monday to find the front door ajar. Burglars had broken in and taken items such as a video game system, a CD player, 30 video games, 30 DVDs, a BB gun, jewelry, and a safe with personal items, the Daily Herald reported.

The residents also reported that their three goldfish were found floating dead in their tank.

The burglars poured hot sauce, mustard, ketchup and spices into the water before leaving, investigators told the Daily Herald.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (847) 590-STOP, the Daily Herald reported.
