Wounded Burglar Charged With Attempted Home Invasion
FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. (STMW) -- Police in west suburban Franklin Park have charged a man with attempted home invasion, about a month after he sustained gunshot wounds while allegedly trying to break into a home.
On Tuesday, police charged Richard Cartuccio, 33, of 133 East Ave. in Amboy, Ill., with attempted home invasion, attempted residential burglary and criminal damage to property, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
A couple on the 2400 block of Ernst Street told police they heard their doorbell ring at about 10:30 a.m. March 3. A few minutes later, someone tried to enter through their rear door, according to a press release from Franklin Park police.
The wife called 911 while the husband grabbed a handgun. The man outside, who was wearing a baseball hat and yellow hoodie, allegedly attempted to break in through a rear basement window. The husband yelled that he had a gun.
Police said the man outside allegedly pointed an object at the husband. Police could not determine if the object was a weapon, Police Chief Mike Witz said.
The husband fired several shots at the man attempting to enter the home, and he fled. Police did not locate the man at the time, but learned later that day that Cartuccio admitted himself to Rush Oak Park Hospital with bullet wounds in his forearm and hip.
Cartuccio was released from the hospital Tuesday, Witz said, and taken to the police department, where he was charged. Bond was set at $100,000 Wednesday.
His next court date is Monday at Circuit Court in Maywood.
