$100,000 Bond For Burglar Caught Tossing Jewelry
ROLLING MEADOWS (CBS) -- Bond was set at $100,000 Friday for a northwest suburban man caught by police trying to throw away jewelry allegedly taken during several residential burglaries.
Jerry Dickens, 41, of the 2200 block of Nichols Lane in Arlington Heights was arrested Thursday and charged with three counts of residential burglary relating to thefts in Arlington Heights and unincorporated Palatine Township, a release from the Cook County Sheriff's office said.
Sheriff's detectives investigating a burglary pattern issued a bulletin to other agencies and learned Arlington Heights police were investigating a similar string of burglaries in the Terramere subdivision, the release said.
The break in the case came Thursday when police were called to a home in the 1900 block of Trail Ridge Road after a break-in. In that case, a patio door was broken and currency, small electronics, jewelry and laptops were taken.
As police conducted extra patrols around the area that afternoon, they noticed Dickens, who matched the description of the suspect, walking in the 2200 block of Dickens Road in Arlington Heights. He appeared to be dropping jewelry as he walked, according to Arlington Height police.
Officers then detained him for questioning, and Dickens allegedly admitted his involvement in a series of break-ins, identifying numerous locations that had been his targets, a release from police said.
A search of his home yielded items from several burglaries, some of which have been identified by burglary victims, according to Arlington Heights police.
He could face additional charges, pending identification of recovered property.
