Burglar Breaks Into Lion House At Lincoln Park Zoo
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Someone broke into the basement of the lion house at the Lincoln Park Zoo overnight and stole a set of walkie-talkies and pepper spray.
Lincoln Park Zoo spokeswoman Sharon Dewar said that zookeepers noticed the break-in when they came to open the Kovler Lion House at about 7 a.m. Saturday.
A burglar had broken a window to get into the basement and then stole zookeepers' walkie-talkies and at least one can of pepper spray, according to Dewar. The walkie-talkies were worth about $3,000.
In addition to the break-in, the burglar also forced open a steel door leading from the basement to the moat of the tiger enclosure, then left a ladder in the moat.
Authorities were reviewing surveillance video from the lion house as part of the investigation.
