Bulls Add Backcourt Depth By Signing Ronnie Brewer
(CBS) The Bulls have signed guard/forward Ronnie Brewer for the remainder of the season, the team announced Monday.
The 6-foot-7 Brewer will help provide depth in the backcourt -- presumably giving Jimmy Butler a few more breathers -- as Chicago prepares for the playoffs. Brewer will be eligible to play in the postseason. He was a free agent after he appeared in 23 games earlier this season with the Rockets, averaging 0.3 points and 0.6 rebounds in 6.9 minutes per game.
The 29-year-old Brewer played for the Bulls in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons and drew notoriety as a member of the team's "Bench Mob," and he's considered to be a strong defender.
For the most part, coach Tom Thibodeau had been utilizing a seven-man rotation of late, with Taj Gibson and D.J. Augustin getting heavy minutes off the bench and Tony Snell and Nazr Mohammed getting spot minutes.
Guard Mike James has also been reported to be a veteran the Bulls are looking to add before the playoffs. Chicago's roster is now at 13 players.
