Bulls, Hawks Playoff Runs Worth Millions To City
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The Chicago Bulls begin their NBA playoff run tomorrow, and a financial consulting firm figures the Chicago area could reap tens of millions of dollars if the team goes deep into the playoffs.
Tim Mahon, of the MDS consulting group, figured out that, if the Bulls make it to the NBA Finals, it could have a $75 million impact on the Chicago area.
Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, MDS did not look as closely at the Blackhawks' impact. However, if the Blackhawks were to also go deep into the playoffs, there might be another $50 million to $75 million financial punch for the city, Mahon said.

But, Mahon says, while he loves the Blackhawks, "We weren't that positive they'd go more than one series".
If they do, the combined Bulls/Blackhawks playoff economic impact to the Chicago area in tickets sold, dinners eaten before games, treats bought for home watching and more, could mean $125 million to $150 million to the area.
Mahon said, "It's just all good feeling and cash registers ringing."
The Bulls open their playoff run on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers. The Blackhawks play Game 2 of their series against Vancouver tonight at 9 p.m.
