Buehrle Wants To Pitch In 2012
(CBS) After 390 games in a White Sox uniform, Tuesday might be Mark Buehrle's last.
"To be honest with you, I'm not trying to blow it off, but I'm not trying to make a big deal of it," said Buehrle who will make his final start of the 2011 season Tuesday. "I know family and friends are, I've got a lot of text massages saying to enjoy it and soak it in, but it's not a 100-percent chance that I'm not coming back. I'm not going to do this big farewell tour. I might get emotional a little bit, but I'm trying not to, just because I could be back here next year."
The 32-year-old left-hander is in the last year of his contract. While there has been speculation that Buehrle will retire after this season, he squashed those rumors Monday, telling a group of reporters he's looking for a multi-year deal.
"I don't know what to expect," Buehrle said. "This is my first time testing free-agency. You just kind of go home, sit back and wait for the phone to start ringing."
With two games left this season, Buehrle said there has been no communication between his agent and the White Sox.
"Nothing," he said. "(The White Sox) gotta sit down and kind of see which way they want to go with the team, trade some guys and go younger, or try to sign some guys back. I don't know. I haven't had any conversations (with them.) Obviously me and my agent have, but he hasn't been contacted by the White Sox.
"It's the same thing as last year. No one thought (Paul) Konerko and AJ (Pierzynski) would be back, and they're both here. You can't forsee the future."
