Buehrle: Sale Poised To Take Home Cy Young Award
By Sam Zuba-
WRIGLEY FIELD (CBS) - He may be half way across the country, but former White Sox ace Mark Buehrle understands just how special Chris Sale is.
Buehrle, who spent 12 years with the White Sox before signing with the Marlins after the 2011 season, told the media he wouldn't be surprised if the 23-year-old left-hander took home his first Cy Young Award after the 2012 season.
It's still early, but Sale has put together an 11-2 record with a 2.11 ERA through 16 starts (17 appearances.)
"I think (general manager Kenny Williams) made the right decision by getting rid of me and putting him in the starting rotation," Buehrle said Tuesday. "Right now, I don't know how he can't win the Cy Young Award. I don't know if anyone knew he was going to be this good, this quick, but when he goes out there, he throws just like Randy Johnson. He's dominating."
Buehrle also said his decision to leave the White Sox for the Marlins was purely business and that there was absolutely no bad blood between the two parties when it was time to part ways.
"There's not one hard feeling," he said. "I'm not pissed one bit. There's not one ounce of me that's upset they didn't sign me back. It's a business decision. They had to do it that way. Obviously, it's paying off for them right now."
"I love Jerry, Kenny, all those guys. I was in Chicago for 12 years. I made a lot of friends. Jerry sat me down a few months before the end of the season and said, 'Hey, if it doesn't work out, I just want to thank you personally for what you've done for us.' … I'll always love Jerry and everyone in the White Sox organization."
