Buddy Guy Wins Entrepreneurship Award
CHICAGO (CBS/WBBM) -- Chicago blues Legend Buddy Guy provided some hard-nosed business advice this week as he picked up a lifetime achievement award to go with six Grammys.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's John Cody reports, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White handed Guy the award for entrepreneurship at the annual African-American Heritage celebration at the Thompson Center.

Guy is also the owner of Legends nightclub at 700 S. Wabash Ave., and he says there are deep similarities between running a band and running his lounge.
"A lot of times, people work for you now, and you can be the best boss they ever had, and sooner or later they will come up with some way that they are more important than you are," Guy said, "and I do run into that a lot of the time. I run into that with promoters, I run into that with sidemen, I run into that with people working in my club, and I saw that even before I had a club, with the other people having clubs."
Guy, a Louisiana native, came to Chicago in 1957 and won a recording contract the following year. He recorded with the legendary Chess Records on the Near South Side.
Buddy Guy's Legends opened in 1989. It was located down the block at 754 S. Wabash Ave. until 2009, when Guy moved the club to its current location after the old property was donated to Columbia College.
