Brush Fires Shut Down Road, Metra Line
GENEVA, Ill. (CBS) -- The persistent dry conditions have led to brush fires in the Chicago area, which grew so severe Tuesday afternoon that they shut down a Metra train line and a major roadway.
WBBM Newsradio traffic reported the Union Pacific-West Metra line had to be shut down Tuesday because of a brush fire in Geneva.
Tran No. 50 had been set to depart Elburn at 1:25 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 2:50, but never left due to the fire.
Meanwhile in North Barrington, Route 59 was shut down Cuba Road to Half Day Road due to another brush fire.
Conditions have been dry in the area for several days. There is no rain in the forecast for the week to come.
