$100 Filipino Golden Cristal Ube Donut Comes To Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) – If you have been dreaming of tasting a Golden Cristal Ube Donut, now is your chance! But, it will cost you.
Chef Bjorn De La Cruz and the Manila Social Club will offer Sunday, Oct. 2 an array of Filipino donuts, including the Golden Cristal Ube donut at the Kultura Festival at Emporium Logan Square, 2363 N. Milwaukee Ave, as the family returns to their Midwest roots to offer their donuts here for the first time.
An individual hand-made Golden Cristal Ube donut will be sold for $100.
The Manila Social Club Golden Cristal Donut is made with ube, a naturally sweet yam found in the Philippines and Cristal champagne. The donut is filled with an ube mousse and a Cristal gelee, covered in Cristal icing, dusted with 24K gold dust and hand-gilded with 24K gold leaf.
Each donut is handmade by Bjorn De La Cruz, Manila Social Club's Executive Chef, Co-Owner and creator of the donut.
A limited number of Golden Cristal Donuts can be pre-ordered and picked up at Kultura Fest.
At Kultura Festival, Manila Social Club will also offer a donut bar of ube, gin-calamansi and buko pandan donuts.
Kultura, the Filipino-American Food and Arts Festival will present over a dozen Filipino-American chefs, visual artists and musicians.
October is Filipino-American heritage month. The festival hopes to reintroduce Filipino cuisine to Chicago and the Midwest.
